Whiteout is not weather; it's a condition. The moment when light becomes so diffuse that sky and snow merge into a single surface, and orientation only comes from what moves.

This painting is the second work in a loose series of paintings from ski resorts with extreme visibility restrictions. The first version of this motif has already been sold. Whiteout II is not a repetition, but a reinterpretation of the same moment from a changed perspective and with a different visual feel.

The gaze goes upwards, towards the three converging ropes that dissolve into a circularly constructed light background. The gondola hangs on the left edge of the image, almost casually. The actual subject is the light itself, this milky, directionless brightness that casts no shadows and reveals no time of day. The circular brushwork in the background creates a slight pull towards the center of the image, while the black ropes work against it as hard lines. Calm and direction simultaneously.
