When was the last time you achieved something with someone that was bigger than the two of you alone? When 1+1 = 3?
This painting was meant to convey exactly that feeling. The result is a 100×120 cm work, acrylic on canvas in a multi-layered palette knife technique.
A gift to mark the completion of a joint project. A thank you that lasts.
The client came to me with a clear vision. He had already experimented with AI-generated images himself. He wanted to convey energy, growth, shared success and enthusiasm. The moment when two sides have accomplished something together.
The content was all there. It just still looked like a poster. The idea was right, only the feeling was missing.
I developed my own concept from it, freer and more abstract, something that evokes and expresses these emotions instead of describing them. He was on board before I had even finished speaking.
From the first stroke to the color study

With a format of this size, I leave nothing to chance. I first develop the basic structure with a ballpoint pen on paper. Again and again, until the movement is right.
Then I take this structure digitally to the iPad and start on the color concept, so my client could see what his painting would look like before the first brushstroke. Through these steps he was close to the creation at every stage, could influence it and be part of the process, so that everything turned out exactly as he imagined.
Layer by layer
Only then did it go onto the large canvas.
The work was created in many, many layers of paint, mostly with a palette knife. This is how color gets structure. Depth. Almost a pulse of its own. Two forms that intertwine and carry each other upwards, over a warm, golden ground. Two energies that meet and create something greater. During the process I kept the client closely involved. Interim stages, joint decisions, his eye on every step. It mattered to him to walk this path together. That is exactly what turned a commission into a true collaboration.

What matters most with a painting like this is what it conveys: the success two sides achieved together, captured in a painting that exists only once.
How a commission works with me
First we talk about the occasion, the size and what the painting should convey. From this I develop my own concept, first as a sketch, then as a color study, so you can see what your painting will look like before the first brushstroke goes onto the large canvas. Only after your approval does it go onto the canvas, in several layers, until the work is finished.
You can find formats, process and prices in the overview of my commissions.
Are you planning an individual large-format painting too? To mark the end of a joint project. As a gift to a partner. As a reminder of what you have achieved together.
Write to me, and we will look at how your idea can become a painting.
