As a child, I went to a youth camp in Switzerland and saw the Matterhorn for the first time—this free-standing mountain rising out of nowhere—and I was completely fascinated. Since then, it has been the image I associate with mountains.
In the original drawing, I tried to capture this fascination with India ink because it allows for clean lines and strong contrasts, which is exactly what this striking silhouette requires. The motif is minimalist and thrives on this reduction.
